This Deephaven project created a broad outdoor living area that runs along much of the back of the home. The finished layout gives the homeowners room for dining, seating, and everyday use while keeping clear connections between the house, yard, and multiple exterior doors.
The warm brown deck surface is paired with black aluminum railings for a clean contrast against the light exterior of the home. Matching fascia wraps the exposed deck edge, helping the whole structure read as one finished project instead of just a new walking surface.
Two separate stair runs make the deck easier to use from different parts of the yard, and small integrated lights in the stair risers add a practical detail for evening access.
One of the strongest parts of this project is the amount of usable space. The deck stretches across a long section of the home and works around several doors and different wall sections without making the finished area feel broken up.
That gives the homeowners flexibility to create separate zones for a table, chairs, grilling, or open circulation while still keeping the deck connected as one continuous outdoor space.
The black railing system gives the deck a defined edge while the narrow vertical balusters keep sightlines relatively open toward the yard. On a deck this wide, that matters because a heavier railing style could easily make the space feel boxed in.
The railing continues down both stair runs so the transitions feel consistent from the main deck surface to the yard. A gate is also incorporated into one stair opening, adding another functional detail without disrupting the overall railing design.
The face of the deck is finished with horizontal brown fascia that matches the deck surface. That detail is especially visible from the yard, where the lower edge of a deck can otherwise look unfinished even when the top surface is new.
Small round lights are built into the stair risers on both access points. They are subtle during the day, but they help define each step after dark and make the stairs easier to navigate when the deck is being used in the evening.
The finished project gives this home a much larger and more organized outdoor area without competing with the architecture around it. The brown decking works naturally with the wooded backyard, while the black railings create a sharper modern edge.
